Need-to-Know Fact: A gasoline vehicle is 60x more likely to catch fire than an electric vehicle. That’s according to recent statistics from the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board.

  • Hybrid engines are 138x more likely to catch fire than an electric vehicle. (Not clear why this is. Perhaps gasoline and electricity don’t mix?)

  • Gasoline explodes into fire. Batteries are slow to burn giving occupants time to exit.

  • Battery fires do not burn hotter than gasoline fires.

  • Battery fires can be harder to put out and require different fire-fighting techniques.
